Hi Urnemanden,

these are good questions. And no matter if you speak English because I'd like to divide this website into 2 linked sections, Fr/En. If I can leave only one forum for both, this would be great.

To answer you :
I'd planned to add a "work in progress" section with the upload system but this would have been too long before I opened up again this website, so the upload system is designed only for finished works.
Anyway, I still want to add this wip part because I think it's much better to have wip download at the same place than final releases.
For now, you'll have to upload pics on free image hosters. I assume "3D work" would be some kind of first playable release, if it's not pics are good enought. Just try to capture important things and not a view of the whole work where nobody can distinguish nothing.

To answer your second question, there's no need to be moderators out there simply because this forum is too small and the website is quite new and unfinished.

'Glad you like it :)

aah, then i think that i just wait for that section, until it's done. I can use my domain (www.urnemanden.com) to host all the pictures i post, if you want. Yes, my "3D Work" is a playable release of a track, and yes i will give an overview screenie and then some screenshots near to different scenes in the track. :)

About the moderator thingy, i guess your right. Well, let's hope that we get more users to here. I like this place :^^:

I've already visited your website. :rfl:
You can host even pics and cars/tracks on it if you wish to, although if your work is advanced enought just upload it and put into comments something like "THIS IS JUST A BETA RELEASE BUT WHY ISN'T THERE ALREADY A BETA UPLOAD SYSTEM ???"

Then I would choose if your comment is acceptable... or not :fear:

I like the "3D models" section although the 3D models you've put in could have been more optimized ! Keep it up, I'd like to say. :)

Most of my old 3D models, aren't that good. Last time it was updated was in December and all models is made in Zmodeler. But thank you very much for visiting my website. I am trying to insert some Guestbook/comment pages, but it's php so i got some problems understand what i am actually doing there. Some of the buttons doesnt match perfect either, but that'll be fixed (i hope) some day. :^^:

I'll upload my work later today, in the "Betas du site". I hope thats the right section :)

Well that is and that is not.
You can upload anything using the upload system, for now if it's a beta release just write it into the comments box then I'll add it manually.
I hope it's clear enough. :sure:

Surrealistic Jungle track

I am currently working on my first 3ds max track. I don't got any name of it yet, other than i know it is a surrealistic jungle track. Here is some screenies of the "events" in it.

Image Image Image

NOTE: 3ds max renders. No lights has been inserted yet ;)
Tip: Click on one the image to enlarge

Current polycount: Should be very near to 29736 polygons (my count)
Max polycount: I don't know, how much should be the maximum?
Polygons with collision: Should be 500+ or - to 6600 polygons
Textures: Click Here

All kind of feedback will be appreciated. I hope the thumbnails are small enough for you all. I might upload a version of it so you can try it, but i kinda thinks that, that will do it less interresting when i release it oficially. Oh, and in the future there will come one more scene, but MOH is still working on the Jeep. :)

OUCH ! Quite amazing !! It seems to be really good !

To know how much polys are currently used in your scene hit "7" (not numpad).
You can change settings too to know how much triangles are used, this is the most important thing in Re-Volt.
You can put as much triangles as you want altough only ~16000 should be solid surfaces.

In any case, avoid more than 6000 viewable triangles at any time. This is subjective and variable but this would allow you to add some other polys in your scene for detail purposes.
Think about it, do not try to add details first unless if it's needed for setting up gameplay. Details can be added using instances too. ;)
Try to put littles trees near to the roadway while huge ones could be placed far away. Then you can "cheat" to hide flat large places by adding some bushes, for example.
Polycount should be reduced a lot while your track will not lose anything.

Now my 2 cents :
I'll don't discuss the graphic style you've put in this track, but trees leafs seems to be so smooth while all the trunks are straights. :(
Also, try to put a transitional texture between trees and ground, something like this :

I know you'll probably don't change things so much in this track, just do it as you like to play around with 3ds, and keep it in mind for... next one ? :P

Good luck !! :rv:

PD : there is a way to set up 3ds so that your track will rendre as it will ingame. Just ask if you want to know more I could write a little tut. :euh:

I would love to read that tut! :)

Thanks for the tips and thanks for the nice comments too. I will probaly make some more tracks in this theme and i will ensure that i won't use too many polygons every time Re-Volt is rendering. No, your pretty much right that it is kinda too late to change the texture, unless i change the UVW mapping for all the trees (there is about 50-60i think).
I am also thinking about making the grass texture darker and then add lights, where the trees doesnt cover the grass from the sun. That might give a more realistic feeling. :)

You're probably thinking about ingame lights when you say that you're going to add lights, are you ?
If yes, try to learn about vertex colors into 3ds max.
Else forget what I've just said, but you should have noticed that you would add "shadows" exactly the opposite way that you are about to do.

Lighting is something that lot of people forget, even if it's probably the most important thing !

Now I'm eager to try your track. :^^:
