 Re: A few questions
Today I have been spending my whole day on my new track. Yet, I haven't found any name for it, but it is becomming better and better. I finally finished shading every single object (giving it it's own unique color) and I also made shadows on the landscape. I created 10 vines that now is floating around in the trees on the track. 4 of them is crossing the racing line, so you will easily notice them. What I also created, is a new "shortcut" where you instead of getting to the goal faster will get a star. But it is quiet hard to make a good race and at the same time take the shortcut without falling down. I still haven't inserted the animals yet, but I will later. I tested the track in re-volt and it looks much more awesome now. The shadows really gives the track a more 3D-look than a flat 2D look. The fps is between 61 and 49 (49 was because I had AVG scanning) and the ncp file is 1,20 MB. I think the ncp looks quiet big, but Zach told me that it wasn't that bad at all. Also, the fps is okay, so I will trust it. I may write a WARNING! in the Readme.txt to all users who is using a computer with very low specifications. I won't post any pictures since I didn't make any new models for my track other than the shortcut model, which shouldn't be showed btw. You will love the release I am sure

 Re: A few questions
Nice to see you are spending time on it. It proves that you like what you're doing, and that's the most important thing. Waiting for the final release !

 Re: A few questions
I was thinking about give the trees on the track shading in Re-Volt, but I saw how hard it is to control the lights. Will take time to do it in max, but after the job is done, I only need to insert shadowboxes Today I also inserted the vertex colored animals, except the fishes. The water is not finished yet, so I cannot begin inserting the fishes, but they can wait. I am going to insert them using MAKEITGOOD anyway, since the water is probaly the last thing that will be finished on the track. EDIT: Just looked at the result on tree 1 and it didn't look good at all. Maybe only plants will be shaded dark or not dark then.

 Re: A few questions
Maybe you're setting vertex colors too dark, or too bright. Try some other colors and see how it changes. Also, using MAKEITGOOD for placing instances is very good for small objects and I'd like to recommend that rather than putting lots of meshes into the world *.w file. I don't know if you reach better performances, but the file is smallest, and if some people really can't play your track because of the high polycount, you can set another smallest *.fin file and the track will run better without any change. This is only an idea, again...

 Re: A few questions
The recent counts shows that the World file is containing about 50000 polygons (49xxx actually) and my own calculations says that I used about 11000 polygons of the ncp file. If my calculations are correct I hopefully will be able to create much more, since I still got alot of space in the ncp (it seems). What I also discovered was that using lights in MAKEITGOOD will reset the unique vertex color I have given to each tree, so it would be a waste of work if I should make vertex shadows on the trees using MAKEITGOOD. I also discovered that the way i build the trees makes it harder to shade them. The outside sphere is double-sided which means that I cannot shade the inside texture.

 Re: A few questions
50000 polygons and you want to add some more ??? A 1.20Mb collision file is quite big, I don't think you can add "a lot more". The fps isn't that high too. Keep in mind that this track should be playable. If you don't care about gameplay, then it'll be not as good as you wanted it.

 Re: A few questions
The fps on my computer is always between 59 and 60 when I am playing Re-Volt in Fullscreen and it also is on my track. I would like to try out -window mode, but for some reason revolt crash when I try to load my track. Re-Volt can handle more polygons and collision but I don't think that I can do much more things for the track. I nearly finished what there was to finish in 3ds max, so I will soon begin on the MAKEITGOOD.

 Offline for a while
Since friday I have been working offline, because or internet is down. This is a bit bad, but actually it's much better to work offline, because no one disturbs you while working. I am working on the AI Nodes on my track and I also fixed some bugs. My not so often updated website, is also about to have a new update containing a whole new section. I am online again from May 11th, but aleready on friday I will be here as often as I usually am. Here is a list of what to do (what I remember right now):
- MAKEITGOOD - Insert 3 palmtrees (108 polygons each) - Insert some "pretty plant"s - Find & fix bugs - Create a gfx - Working on the trailer - Preparing the download site on urnemanden.com - Fix light-bugs between the racing line and the landscape

 Re: A few questions
Thanks. I don't think I will post any beta versions, since I don't want to destroy the excitement. Today and yesterday I have been working on AI nodes and POS nodes, while the track zones still is just 1 big zone 0 (temporary). Everything i working very well, and I also inserted the palmtrees in instances edit mode. There is still alot of bugs to fix, but I am close to finish the workin 3ds max.
